Parent Groups services

There’s a fine line between support and enablement. Using small tweaks in language and behavior, parents can help foster independence while offering scaffolded support to their child. Solid executive functioning skills enable students to get things done, both at home and in school – hand in homework on time, keep backpack/materials organized, stay focused even when content is boring or difficult, and avoid becoming overwhelmed with schoolwork, among other things.

Effective coaching is not quick, cheap, or easy. The process takes time and effort and involves a lot of trial and error. There is no magic bullet to “fix” your child.

Failure will happen, our job is not to prevent it but to recognize (and praise) the learnings it yields.

I only work with involved parents. We are all part of a team to teach your child strategies to help them navigate school and life. It doesn’t work if you don’t have time to invest in the process.

I approach all clients with warmth, humor, and empathy, but I am very transparent and direct. If you hire me, I’m assuming you want honest feedback, even if it’s hard to hear.

Letter grades do not always accurately reflect students effort or understanding of the materials. Do we want our kids to get better grades? Yes, of course. But the metric I use most is: Does your child feel more successful, happier and healthier? Are they developing the skills they need to launch them successfully into their future?

Testimonials

“I wanted to make sure to get a note off to you to thank you for all your work with Dylan this semester. I have seen him increase his focus and have seen a big increase in his maturity. I appreciate all you have done to prep him for college!”

— Kristen, Mom of a Rising College freshman

“Christine helped my son figure out why he was performing poorly in certain classes. They created new systems around his study habits that definitely helped. Now when he finds himself struggling, he has a plan and knows what steps he needs to take to get back on track.”

— Jen, Mom of HS Sophomore

“William has been implementing your strategies and ended his grading quarter with zero missing assignments! He feels very proud about that.”

— Mom of 6th Grader

“Julia learned some great organizational tips and has been using her timer, keeping her desk cleaner, and trying hard not to dawdle…”

— Susan, Mom of 7th Grader

“We’re feeling really good about Christine’s coaching/check-ins with Liam.  He is realizing he knows more than he thought he did, and is using their time together to solidify these time management concepts.  Knowing and doing are two different things, her encouragement and follow-thru is next level and pure gold. He is poised to have an amazing semester.”

Janice, Mom of College Sophomore

“We have witnessed our son mature as a young adult and also as a student, in (very) large part due to your skilled intuition and coaching. Your honesty and authenticity were a perfect match, and the bond and trust was established so quickly due to these shared traits. Your advice to Lauren and me was as valuable as your advice to Connor. I am confident that he has indeed developed the skills and habits necessary to succeed, as he finishes his degree. I hope that we can be a reference for you in the future, as I feel that our agreement to work with you was one of the best decisions we’ve made in recent years!”

— Mike, Father of College Senior

“Thank you for all that you have done for Aidan and us. Your patience and guidance really made everything so much better for everyone in our household. You pushed him to work hard to get through school, even when he didn’t feel like it, but were caring and empathetic with all his difficulties and set backs. We are incredibly proud of his resilience. He is graduating high school and even has a good GPA! I am so impressed with your skills and talent working with kids with learning disabilities, I have praised and recommend you to my friends.”

— Karen, Mom of High School Senior

Parent Support Package

The most common statement I hear from parents is, “My child is incredibly capable, but he just can’t seem to get his act together.” Whether it’s the inability to complete homework in less than 5 hours, starting a 2-week long project the night before it is due, or forgetting there is a test in math, schoolwork can become a nightmare for both parents and students alike.

Parents often feel conflicted as they try to balance offering support while fostering self-sufficiency:

* Should I use my child’s login to check the school website for assignments or trust them when they say they don’t have any homework?

* How much ‘editing’ of their English paper should I do?

* Beyond nagging, yelling, and threatening, how can I motivate my child to care about school?

* What do I do when my child won’t accept help?

Through weekly one-on-one coaching, parents will learn to engage with their children in a way that will end the blame game, reduce conflict, and help them to build the necessary routines/systems to become independent and launch them toward a success in school and in life.

  • Weekly parent coaching via Zoom or phone
  • Weekly text or Voxer check-ins to answer questions or when problems arise
  • Written detailed plan of action after each meeting

$700 per month

Includes four 60-minute one-on-one sessions
